This mini documentary from BBC is a great example of using
visuals and natural sound to tell a story. There are no voiceovers or
narration. The entire story is told using natural sound and sound bites. The
visuals are very strong and take you right into the environment of the story.
It is a little bit of a longer form piece, but the story keeps moving. This is
also a great example of spotlighting an individual person to humanize a larger
problem, in this case the Syrian refugee crisis.
This is a student project, which is of much lesser quality
than the BBC project. The voiceover is too quiet, some camera shots are shaky,
and the editing isn’t very strong. The stand ups look unnatural and you can
tell the student is reading off of a script.
