Photo Assignment #4, Yasharoff

Dr. Kathleen Kendall speaks to a group of UMD students about her career in political speechwriting
Wednesday in the Oral Communication Center.

It's that time of year again: students make offerings to Testudo in the hopes that
he'll help them succeed in their midterm exams.

Rainy days aren't ideal for farmers' markets, though this man was still able to sell most of his produce.

Excellence in Journalism, the national conference for the Society of Professional Journalists, was held September 18-20 in New Orleans. In one ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel, local artists performed on this stage for the attendees.
This photo of the hotel lobby was taken with an app called "Bubbli" that allows users to create 360 photos with their phones. A panelist during a session about multimedia recommended the app, and many attendees continued to use it throughout the weekend.

A jazz singer performs for journalists taking a break from attending panels.

Dancers perform and play music while trying to get audience members to dance with them-- they weren't very successful.

The conference served quintessentially New Orleans cuisine. Here, a chef prepares Bananas Foster.

Photo Assignment #2, Yasharoff

Sophomore Broadcast Journalism and Government and Politics double major Pablo Roa stays up late most nights editing and writing stories for different campus publications.

Roa contemplating whether or not coffee at 2 a.m. would be a bad idea.

As the Membership Chair for the Society of Professional Journalists, Roa documents the group's annual Welcome Back Barbecue outside of Knight Hall on Sept. 16.

Photo Assignment #1, Yasharoff

A University of Maryland student descends from the top of the rock wall at UMD RecWell's annual Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge Kickoff on September 5.

A student looks up at the wall he just climbed.
A student takes a break from rock climbing to roast marshmallows at the s'mores station.

Students continued to rock climb until the sun went down completely. Some then retired to the inside of Eppley Recreation Center for movie night.
